How the 30-Day Video Challenge Is Changing My Approach to Business

A big learning of this 30-Day Video Challenge has been how energized and motivated I am by having a BIG PROJECT. A project of this scale and scope, though it’s keeping me really busy, is inspiring.

It’s not just having the big project that is inspiring. My motivation to complete it comes from knowing that what I’m doing is helping my audience. This big project has impact. It’s making a difference.

I know this from the conversations I’ve been having with people who are participating. They may not be visible about it, but they’re in it and they’re benefitting from the Challenge’s videos, Facebook group, and posts. Yay!

That brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment.

And it is changing the way I think about my business.

Here’s my new thinking. What if I structured my months (or longer periods if needed) around a BIG PROJECT? That’s what I’m mulling over now.

What could my next big project be, one that would inspire and motivate me and also help my audience in a meaningful way?

If you’re also inspired by big projects, you could restructure your focus this way too. You can take an intermediate sized goal and make it your big project. Or break down a really big goal into several chunks, each one of which could be a big project.

One thing to consider: what interval would be rejuvenating for you to take between big projects as a relative rest period, so that you have the energy to do each one with gusto and sustained effort?

When you’re powered by impact, by enthusiasm, it’s equally important that you take the time to rest and recharge. The interval between big projects would play that role. Test to see what interval would work best for you.

So with that new perspective in mind, let’s see how things are going in the current big project, the 30-Day Video Challenge. Here are the numbers on Day 14:

# videos: 17

12 on Facebook Live, 2 reshoots because of FB Live pixelated videos, 2 just on YouTube, 1 in the Work Alchemy Video Challenge Facebook group

Facebook page Likes/Follows: +11/+6

Email subscribers: no change

Work Alchemy Video Challenge Facebook group: +18

Overall, the engagement with individual posts has leveled off, so I’m considering what I can do to increase engagement. It’s the mid-point of the Challenge, and as Dan Pink’s new book, When reveals, there’s almost always a mid-point dip and then things ramp up again. It’s not enough for me to know that and become complacent though, so I’ll continue to post and engage people.

Facebook ad investment: $16 since last update

Ad to my page visitors in the past year about the Facebook group:

219 reach, 30 engagements, 0 clicks

Ad to my page visitors in the past year for the video about content:

234 reach, 59 engagements, 5 clicks, CPC $1.60

These two ads were run concurrently, which may have created competitive engagement. I’ll run ads one at a time within one audience next time. The group ad’s reasons for joining the group could have been more compelling. As before, the CPC, though high by mega-marketer standards, still serves my growth needs at the moment, so I’m not unhappy with that. The response was not as great as I had hoped, so I’ll spend more time on developing more effective ad copy.

YouTube video views: +43 since last update

YouTube channel subscribers: +3 (no change since last update)

I’m pleased by the jump in YouTube video views as I promote those videos.

Steady engagement, expanding community – both good outcomes. I’d like to see more, so will consider ways to increase organic and paid reach outside of my FB page visitors.

All in all, a productive 4 days in terms of building community!
