Passion and Persistence

I’ve been an entrepreneur for a pretty long time, 17 years. People often ask me, how have you kept your business going for that long and been so successful at it?

The answer is, I’ve been passionate about my work! It’s the same for every other long-running profitable entrepreneur I’ve talked to.

To keep that vibrant energy moving requires both effort and adjustment. My work hasn’t remained the same. When the passion starts to leave, then I change something to bring it back.

That’s what I’m in the process of doing now, with my coaching business. I’m fired up, and excited about the new opportunities!

Many people think that going out on their own, starting a business, is mostly about wanting autonomy. After years of having someone else tell them what they are expected to do, they are keen to set their own course.

Is that enough to keep a business going? Nope.

A big study that was done recently showed that people who start a business just because they want to be independent are actually less likely to continue than those who love their work.

That goes along with the, ‘do what you love and the money will follow’ school of thought. Though it’s true that money follows action rather than wishful thinking, it’s also true that passionate entrepreneurs who face challenges can draw on their passion in those situations. They get positive energy from it, and that keeps them going and on track.

If you’re thinking about starting a business, or are starting one, get on track with your passion. Let it take hold of your imagination, and you’ll come up with a business that will carry you into your future, for years to come.
