Entrepreneur on the Rocks

As entrepreneurs, we all get our start somewhere.

While visiting Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, I met a young woman out on the rocks near the lighthouse.  She had laid out her inventory of starfish and sand dollars on a plastic tub, obviously used to transport the merchandise.  A sign proclaimed, Sea Treasures For Sale!

She positioned herself right next to the main path that led to the much-visited lighthouse.  Many people looked, some people stopped, a few people bought.

I stopped and asked if I could photograph the starfish.  She said, sure, and when I asked, told me that she and her friends snorkeled for them.  I love that she had made the best of a small market opportunity.

I spent several hours near the lighthouse, sitting, climbing on the rocks, meditating, making photographs.  When I left, she was still there, engaging with a couple from England.

She did what every entrepreneur does: found her niche, stuck with it, and did what she had to do.  It may seem small, but this all requires courage and enthusiasm and optimism.

Putting all of that into action is HUGE!

So here’s to all the entrepreneurs out there – yay you!
